Drama in the qualifiers

Yesterday was a day full of drama in dota 2, marked with tiebrakers in two regions ( TnC, Fnatic, Execration)sea region and (Team Secret, Fantastic 5, Escape gaming) eu region.

SEA team Fnatic failed in their trip to get a direct invite as that invite goes to Demon and his new team TnC, coming out from the open qualifiers to get a direct invite to international – that’s pretty big guys.

But as well as TnC the other two team that qualified are also from the open qualifiers – Team Secret and Evil Geniuses, so yes we can say that this is the year of the “underdogs”.

White fries, Fnatic, Execration and WG unity are the teams that are playing the playoffs for the second invite from the region.

Escape gaming, Alliance, Ad Finem and Fantastic 5 are the teams that are playing the playoffs for the second invite of the EU region

CompLexity, FDL, Digital Chaos, Void boys are the teams that are playing the playoffs for the second invite of the US region

Wings is the team that is holding for now the 1st place from China but there are 4 games that need to be played still so don’t miss the show and watch them.

Secret battle their way to TI

It was a treacherous path for Team Secret but they managed to navigate their way through eight rounds of single elimination and one bo3 to reach the Grand Finals of the European Open Qualifiers. Their opponents were Danish bears, and the final bo3 would determine who would win one of the two slots in the European Regionals.

Team Secret were put in the Open Qualifiers as a result of them bringing in a new player when Universe left to return to Evil Geniuses, instead of simply promoting one of their two substitutes. Bulba’s transfer to Team Secret made them ineligible for a direct invite to TI6 or the Regionals.

In game 1 Danish Bears took us back to 6.82-6.84 with a Sniper and Troll combo, a pair of heroes that became the bane of most pub games during last year’s patches.

DB did well to shut down Bulba’s Nyx in the early game – who ended the game with 0-7-11 – and it gave the impression the Danes had pulled a rabbit out of the hat with a retro draft. However, they left  EternalEnvy’s Dragonlance TerrorBlade free farming and with Arteezy also cruising on Timbersaw, whatever lead DB had put together in the first minutes of the game quickly dissipated.

Arteezy’s carefree wandering Timbersaw chilling around DB’s fountain when they still had all their tier 3’s up was a testimony of just how well Secret had game 1. Game 2 was even more one-sided than the first. DB once again allowed Secret the chance to pick TerrorBlade and EternalEnvy once again punished them for it, ending the game with 15-1 on TB. Overall aside from a brief sign of hope for DB at the start of game 1, Team Secret were just a cut above their Grand Final opponents.

Team Secret now progress to the Regional Qualifiers, where they will join 8 invited teams as well as the winner of the second European Open Qualifiers.

OG keeps crushing

The semi-finals of the ESL ONE Frankfurt tournament were pretty amazing and the 4 teams that were competing in this semi final played amazing dota which was fun to watch and pretty exciting, well maybe the finals were not that exciting.

Na’Vi – Vega 2:0

Great series from both teams showing great skill and commitment. But we must mention the amazing performance in the first game of dendi’s timbersaw as well as Fn’s slark. Ending the 59 minute ordeal with a KDA of 28-1-11. Vega’s Slark also did some serious work, with Fn’s securing himself a total of 23 kills. However, his impressive hero damage of 28.9k was not enough, compared to the unmatched 40.8k hero damage of Dendi.

Lastly, game two put the nail in the coffin for Vega. General’s performance on Batrider was a delight to watch, with some seriously impressive jukes. An out of meta Shadow Fiend pick worked nicely for Na’vi, who took the game after 33 minutes.

OG – Team Liquid 2:1

Game one was an impressive 19 minute stomp going the way of Team Liquid. A really solid performance from Liquid’s star support player Jerax, who was involved in all but one kill throughout the game.

Curse of the Lifestealer-Riki combo

Game two really tested the strength of the OG lineup. With 10 completely different heroes from game one, Liquid took an early lead with a few favourable engagements. However OG finding a kill on Kuroky’s Riki enabled them to take Roshan, find a tower and regain some control in the game. Two amazing 5 man vacuum-wall combos from Mind_Control were not enough to keep Liquid in the game.

Miracle showed off his diverse hero pool, picking up the Lycan – the first time they’ve drafted the hero this tournament.

Lastly the third game went the way of OG. A 50 minute extravaganza saw OG pick up a safelane Naga Siren, and some pretty interesting drafting from Liquid. Opening with a first phase Lifestealer-Riki combination, they then picked a safelane Slark for Matumbaman, leaving the Lifestealer for Mind_Control. Cr1t’s performance on Earth Spirit really shone through in game 3, with some beautifully timed stuns combining with Naga Siren’s sleep.

og frankfurt

OG – Na’Vi 3:0

In this series we won’t talk that much Na’Vi were total outsiders since the start of the match. Pretty easy match up for OG as they at the moment seem unbeatable. The highlight of this series was in game 3 when Miracle played Lion support. And the 9k mmr prodigy crushed Na’Vi, showing great skill some jukes, kills, and at the end some great mentality.

Lower bracket madness – ESL ONE Frankfurt

Final day of the ESL ONE Frankfurt and it sure will be full of excitement but lets talk about yesterdays matches.

Group A
Team Liquid is back. After playing with their coach standin Heen, for day two Fata is back and with that Liquid are back. Sweeping Fnatic and Alliance with 2:0 and 3 of the games were absolutely one sided, so there is no need to talk about how Liquid crushed their opponents in those 3 games but we will talk for the 1 game that was pretty close with Fnatic.
Fnatic started perfectly got the lead but made many mistakes at taking Liquid’s highground. Liquid knows as one of the best defensive teams and this time they defend that title. Mind_Control definetly saved Liquid this game with few perfectly placed chronosphere’s which at the end put Liquid in winning situation.

Highlights of the last game Alliance vs Liquid

Group B

The first battle Na’Vi vs Virtus Pro it was hard to watch full series if you are fan of either of these teams. Na’Vi took game 1 and VP game second, and the crowd was in delirium in the game 3 of this matchup.
Everything looked good for VP but suddenly General- Na’Vi’s offlaner with one of the heroes that no one expected to be in this tournament “AXE” he played phenomenaly and saved his team from what looked like win for VP. Word cant say that much as you can actually see this games, so watch the highlights from all three games in the link bellow.

ESL ONE- day 1 review

After a long day, we could say that that was one crazy day. In the recent months the most solid and consistent team- Liquid has not dropped a single game against most of the other teams, but yesterday was a crazy day they drop 2 games to VEGA the team that was lost in the previous month or two. Vega battled their way through the upper bracket finals with Alliance and who would have ever thought that Vega will finish top seed of group A, simply amazing performance from them at this tournament they battle for spot at the international but most important is that they are real threat to the other teams for winning this ESL and winning it as outsiders.

In group B, it can be said that it was a pretty ordinary day the two favorites won and OG claim the top seed of the group. They fought pretty easily against Na’Vi and against CompLexity with not much effort it can be said they won every single game and not dropping once. COL on the other hand won 2:1 against VP, it turned out that Limmp’s Alchemist and Chessie’s Lifestealer were too much for VP to handle.

Follow the matches today live : Fnatic – Liquid (0:1 current result)

Liquid took game one after pretty one sided game where Matumbaman and Fata crushed their opponents. Game two is just starting.

Winner of Liquid – Fnatic plays Alliance in the lower bracket finals.

Group B:
Na’Vi – Virtus Pro 13:30cet
Winner plays against CompLexity

Final test before International

The Manila Major is just over and yet there is another test standing in front of the teams and it is one of the best tournament for dota 2 there is and it is called ESL One Frankfurt.

Eight teams are set and ready to compete for direct invite for TI6. And everything is starting so fast only 5 days after the Manila major and by fast we mean super sonic fast, the tournament is starting in 1 hour from now.
The first battles in ESL ONE Frankfurt are between Alliance – Fnatic and the Manila major 2nd place Team Liquid – Vega.

Esl one

In this group A the favorites are Liquid and Fnatic but for sure Vega and Alliance won’t give up that easily and will cause them problem and hopefully even make a miracle and beat them.

The second group the first duel is starting at 13:45(cet) where
OG(manila major winners) will play against Na’Vi and Complexity – Virtus Pro.

Virtus Pro have had a particularly rough few months as a team, and as a result of some subpar performances their chances to appear on LAN have been drying up. Fortunately for them, LGD Gaming‘s withdrawal has gifted them a chance for excellent practice ahead of the Regional Qualifiers for TI6.

The reason given by ESL for their withdrawal was “health reasons within the team”, and the hosts of the ESL One Frankfurt wished them a speed recovery.

Virtus Pro came third in the European Qualifiers behind Vega and Navi – who both qualified – making them fair replacement. They will however be playing without Ilya ‘AlohaDance’ Korobkin, whose visa is currently still pending. Maurice ‘KheZu’ Gutmann from No Diggity will play in his place for at least the group stage, if not for the whole tournament should AlohaDance’s visa application prove unsuccesful.
